Vancouver, B.C.
Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation and Vancity are pleased to announce plans for Vancity to open a new community branch at Sen̓áḵw, becoming the first commercial tenant announced for the landmark development on the lands of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation).
The Sen̓áḵw Village Branch will serve as Vancity’s Centre of Indigenous Banking, bringing together its Indigenous Banking offerings in one location, Vancity’s first on-reserve branch.
The announcement marks an important milestone for Sen̓áḵw as Phase 1 nears completion and first residents are welcomed home. As the community continues to grow, Vancity’s branch will help support the daily needs of residents and the broader community while contributing to the commercial village envisioned for Sen̓áḵw.
Sen̓áḵw is one of the largest Indigenous-led urban developments in Canadian history. Located near the south end of the Burrard Bridge, the project will deliver thousands of purpose-built rental homes, along with commercial space, public spaces, amenities and gathering places on Squamish Nation land.
“We are honoured to have the opportunity to bring a Vancity branch to Sen̓áḵw in partnership with the Squamish Nation and Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation,” said Michelle Laviolette, Director of Indigenous Banking at Vancity. “This is more than a new location — it’s an opportunity for us to listen, learn and be guided by the community as we continue to deepen our commitment to reconciliation and economic inclusion. Through this work, we also intend to learn from real-time feedback from Sen̓áḵw Village Branch members to help inform the development of innovative programs and products.”
“As first residents are welcomed home, Vancity’s arrival marks an important next step in building the complete community envisioned for Sen̓áḵw,” said Jenn Podmore Russell, EVP Real Estate and Development, Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation. “This is the beginning of the commercial village and a meaningful milestone in the continued growth of the project.”
As planning progresses, Vancity will continue working closely with Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation and the Squamish Nation community to help shape the branch as a welcoming and culturally grounded space that supports financial wellbeing and local economic opportunities.
The branch is expected to open in early fall 2026.
