Vancity is celebrating the official opening of its Burquitlam branch today with a community festival that brings together local residents, businesses, and community partners in one of Metro Vancouver’s fastest-growing neighbourhoods.
Guests will be welcomed by Vancity President and CEO Wellington Holbrook, alongside community leaders including Zoe Royer, Member of Parliament for Port Moody–Coquitlam, and Maita Santiago, Councillor for the City of Burnaby, as well as an Indigenous welcome and acknowledgement from a representative of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation.
Throughout the day, the public is invited to experience a community marketplace, connect with local organizations, and take part in family-friendly activities. Local Vancity business members and neighbourhood vendors are featured throughout the event, including Rainbow Ice Cream, DesignerCookies, Cassandra Cake Co., and Uncle Fatih’s Pizza, alongside a community fair with partners such as WeBC, BC Newcomer Services Program, SafeHaven, Low Entropy Foundation, and Free the Fern.
Located at 510 Clarke Road, steps from the Burquitlam SkyTrain station, the branch was built to reflect the needs of a diverse and rapidly growing community spanning Coquitlam and Burnaby, the branch offers multilingual services and inclusive, accessible design features to help more people access financial advice and support.
“It’s exciting to bring members, local businesses, and community partners together in this space,” said Wellington Holbrook, President and CEO of Vancity. “Our Burquitlam branch is designed to be more than a place to bank. It’s a place for people to connect, learn, and support one another, and we’re proud to see that come to life today.”
“We’re making meaningful progress on our transformation while staying rooted in what matters most to our members,” said Linda Bowyer, EVP, Inclusive Banking and Sustainable Wealth at Vancity. “Even as many financial institutions shift more heavily to digital and automation, we remain committed to in-person service and strong local branch presence because access to knowledgeable, face-to-face support continues to matter deeply in the communities we serve.”
As part of the opening, the Burquitlam branch will serve as a hub for ongoing community connection and partnership. Vancity is committed to working alongside local organizations and community leaders to strengthen resilience in the neighbourhood and support the people and businesses who call it home.
